Aiming to extend benefits to the members of the unorganised sector, the Yogi Adityanath government has decided to provide a maintenance allowance of Rs 2,000 in two instalments of Rs 1,000 each to registered labourers of the unorganised sector.
The maintenance allowance will be available to all those workers of unorganised sector who get themselves registered with Uttar Pradesh Unorganised Workers Social Security Board by December 31.
The Labour Department issued a directive in this regard on Monday. The Labour Department directive said that the maintenance allowance would be transferred directly to the account of the labourers but if the labourer was getting government help through Kisan Samman Nidhi or any other scheme, he would not be entitled for this benefit.
“Preparations are being made to provide Rs 1,000 as the first instalment of allowance to the registered labourers in January. To ensure transparency, the Aadhaar card of the labourers will be linked with their accounts,” a senior official of the Labour Department said.
In the second supplementary budget of the current financial year presented during the Winter Session of the legislature, the Yogi government has made a provision of Rs 4,000 crore. So far about 2.5 crore labourers have been registered with Uttar Pradesh Unorganised Workers Social Security Board and the amount will be sent directly to their bank accounts.
