A woman in Saharanpur got a case registered a false rape case against her husband and without going through the formalities of divorce, she reportedly showed her marital status as `unmarried’. Her hapless husband had now filed an application under Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking the marital status of his own wife from the college where she joined for higher studies.
As per reports, Zoya of Kotwali area in Saharanpur married her neighbour Mohammed Ali in 2013. Then 19 years of age, Zoya reportedly got married to Ali since he had returned from a Gulf country with huge anount of money.
Sate Information Commissioner Hafiz Usman said that Ali revealed that Zoya’s father initially took Rs 7 lakh from him to start a readymade garments business and later demanded more money and when he refused, the in-laws framed him and his fanmily in a fake case for abducting and raping Zoya with the local police.
Surprisingly, Zoya too supported her father’s allegations before a magistrate. When Ali and his family were arrested, Zoya’s family demanded that if Ali was handed over to them, they would withdraw the case. Finding no other option, Ali sold one of his properties and paid the entire money to Zoya after which she submitted an affidavit admitting that she set Ali up in a fake case after which the case was withdrawn in 2014.
The SIC said that even after this, Zoya diod not return to her husband and in 2015, she took admission in Deoband Unani Medical College, Hospital and Research Centre. Ali was asked to deposit a fee of several lakh rupees. While filling up[ the admission form, Zoya again shocked her husband by showing her marital status as `unmarried’. The SIC said that after learning of the same, Ali contacted the college authorities to confirm it but was shown the door.
Subsequently, Ali filed an RTI application with the Medical Education department to confirm the same and after failing in his bid, knocked at the door of the SIC court.
Finding that a woman and her family were unnecessary harassing a man and his family and misusing the law to execute their evil designs, Hafiz Usman directed the authorities concerned to enquire into the matter and submit a report so that appropriate action could be taken against Zoya for forging her marital status in the records.
