In a sensational case of rape and murder, the naked body of an unidentified woman with multiple injuries was found in a sugarcane field in Sambhal district on Friday morning.
The body was packed in a sack and the police said the woman was possibly killed elsewhere and her body was dumped in the field in Musapur village.
The body was sent for autopsy to ascertain she was sexually assaulted or not.
Additional Superintendent of Police Alok Kumar Jaiswal said: "There were multiple injuries on the body. It appears she died of a head injury. The woman was killed at a different place and the accused then dumped the body in the field to conceal the crime. We have registered an FIR for murder and have sent the body for autopsy. Efforts are on to establish her identity."
Meanwhile, in a tragic incident, a 21-year-old youth committed suicide in Bareilly on Thursday, reportedly after his elder brother eloped with a 19-year-old girl and the teenager's parents subjected him and his mother to public humiliation over the elopement.
The deceased was identified as Pramod Kumar, a resident of Bareilly's Bisharatganj area. He was a potter by profession. He was upset over his brother's decision to elope with the teenage girl. After they eloped, the girl's parents humiliated him and his mother on Wednesday night. The following morning, he took poison. He was rushed to a private medical facility, where he died.
After the demise of his father Chatrapal in 2015, the youth relocated from his village to Bareilly city along with his family members, including his mother and three brothers -- Ghanshyam, Kamal and Sunil. The teenage girl with whom Kamal had an affair was from a different caste. Due to the caste difference, her parents did not approve of their relationship and warned Kamal to distance himself from her.
On Wednesday, Kamal eloped with the girl. In the night, the girl's parents, along with some relatives, allegedly barged into his house to look for their daughter. Pramod was allegedly slapped by one of them. They demanded that Kamal and the girl be found in 24 hours.
On the basis of a complaint filed by the girl's family, a case of abduction has been registered against Kamal and efforts are on to trace him.
Pramod's body was sent for post-mortem.
In another incident in Bareilly, a six-year-old boy was killed when the iron gate of a government primary school in Barua Hussainpur village of the district collapsed on him, a senior official said on Friday.
The gate was installed in October 2021 under a government programme.
Akhilesh was playing near the primary school under Bhuta police station on Thursday afternoon when the gate, which was open, suddenly fell. The boy came under it and died on the spot.
The body was sent for post-mortem.
SDM of Faridpur, Ajay Kumar Upadhyay, said that investigation was being made into the death of the child due to the collapse of the school gate and the guilty would not be spared. He said possible government assistance would also be provided to the victim's family.
