Woman kills daughter for ‘honour’ in Kasuhambi

A woman allegedly killed her minor daughter for opposing her relationship with a boy in Kaushambi.

According to reports, the accused, Shivpati, after killing her 15-year-old daughter with an axe and dumping her body in a well with the help of other family members, lodged a complaint at the Manjhanpur police station, saying her daughter had been kidnapped.

Superintendent of Police, Brijesh Kumar Srivastava, said that Shivpati reported to the police on October 14 that her daughter, who had gone to the fields for some work on October 2, had not returned home since then.

“She also laid suspicion on her daughter’s boyfriend. Based on her complaint, a case of abduction was registered against unknown persons and a probe was launched,” the SP said.

On October 26, the locals informed the police that they had spotted the body of a girl in a well in a field outside the Tejvapur village.

Shivpati identified the body as that of her daughter, and the police subsequently added Section 302 (punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code to the case.

However, certain evidence indicated Shivpati as the prime suspect and she was arrested for the murder on Monday night, while her other minor daughter was also apprehended. Her daughter-in-law Meera is absconding and efforts are on to arrest her.

On information provided by Shivpati, the axe and stick, used in the murder, had been recovered, the SP said, adding that a sack was also recovered, which was used to hide the body.

Srivastava further said that during questioning, the accused told the police that she had advised her daughter not to continue her relationship with a boy from the same village, but her daughter did not agree.

“Shivpati confessed that on the midnight of October 2, she, her second daughter and Meera allegedly killed the victim by hitting her with an axe and a stick. After the murder, they stuffed the body in a jute sack and dumped it in a well located on a field outside their village,” the SP added.

Meanwhile the Bareilly police arrested a man for allegedly molesting a minor girl and blackmailing her to upload her morphed photos on social media. The accused, identified as Sahil Gupta (20), has been sent to jail for committing the heinous crime.

As per the complaint filed by the minor girl’s father, Sahil befriended his daughter through social media nearly 11 months ago.

“After gaining trust, Sahil asked my daughter to send some photos which he tampered and started blackmailing her by threatening to upload those morphed photos on social media,” the complainant said.

“Sahil then asked my daughter to meet at a deserted place on October 12 where he raped her by threatening to kill her,” he added.

The police filed a complaint against Sahil Gupta under relevant Sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences POCSO) Act. “The accused has been arrested on Monday night and the probe is currently underway. Sahil has been sent to jail,” a senior police officer said.
