A youth hacked his girlfriend to death in Rae Bareli as he was fed up with her blackmailing with threats to lodge a rape case against him if he did not regularly give her money.
The accused slit his girlfriend’s throat with an axe and surrendered before the police, confessing his crime. The incident took place in Tikari Dandu under Mill area police station in Rae Bareli.
According to reports, the financial condition of the husband of one Neelu Sahu, a resident of Chhajjupur in the same police station area, was not well, due to which her closeness with accused Rajesh increased and both of them developed illicit relationship. In return, she took Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 every month from Rajesh.
A few months back, Rajesh stopped giving money to Neelu following which she started threatening to implicate Rajesh in a false case of rape and get him arrested. Rajesh gave some more money but pointed out he had no money to give her. The girl, however, threatened him to either give money or be ready to go jail in rape case. Distressed by the blackmailing, Rajesh hatched a plan to kill Neelu and get rid of her regular threats.
On Tuesday, in the name of getting a ration card made, Rajesh took his girlfriend near Bhaw bridge under Bhadokhar police station and killed her by slitting her throat with an axe.
Meanwhile, Neelu's husband Pramod Sahu informed the police that Rajesh had kidnapped his wife and also apprehended that he might rape and kill her. While the police started searching for both, on Wednesday evening, Rajesh turned up before the police and confessed to killing Neelu, claiming that he was fed up with her regular threats and that he had no money to give her now.
The cops later recovered the body and the weapon used in the crime. The body was sent for autopsy and Rajesh was sent to jail on Thursday.
Additional Superintendent of Police Vishwajit Srivastava said that the accused told during interrogation that he was familiar with Neelu Sahu for the last three years. In the beginning he used to give money to the deceased. But her demand was increasing day by day because of which he was mentally and financially troubled. Rajesh also told the interrogators that after committing the murder, he attended a programme and then went to a temple before surrendering.
