A petty dispute over getting water from the public tap resulted in the lynching of a 30-year-old woman by some local residents in Damolia village of Hardoi last Monday and the victim succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday.

Subsequently, the police registered a case and arrested three persons involved in the brutal assault. Additional forces were deployed in the area to avert any untoward incident.

As per reports, a dispute broke out between Ladaiti Devi and Rachna over who would collect water first from a government-installed tap last Monday. The argument snowballed into Rachna’s family members brutally assaulting Ladaiti Devi with sticks. The critically injured victim was later shifted to a hospital where she succumbed to her injuries late on Wednesday night.

After learning of her death, the police took cognisance and registered a case. The body was sent for post-mortem and further investigations were on.

Meanwhile in Banda, a 14-year-old minor girl was gang-raped by three men while she was returning home at a village in Girwa area on August 26.

After a complaint by her family members, an FIR was registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act on Tuesday.

The victim’s kin alleged that an FIR was registered only after the intervention of local politicians. The police were now making efforts to track down the rapists and arrest them.

In Bareilly, a man and a woman, both in their twenties, were found lying unconscious at the roadside in Bhojipura area in the early hours of Wednesday. Upon receiving information, the police got them admitted to the district hospital but both died during treatment, possibly due to poisoning, on Wednesday evening.

The police said that investigations revealed that the man belonged to Pilibhit and the woman found with him was his sister-in-law. The police suspect that the man was probably having an affair with his sister-in-law and their families were strongly opposed to their liaison and they might have later eloped and consumed poison.

Their bodies were handed over to family members after autopsy.
