The mutilated body of a journalist with a Hindi daily was recovered from the railway tracks in Unnao on Thursday night.
After the victim’s family accused a woman sub-inspector and some other cops of murdering him and making it look like an mishap, a case was registered against the accused and investigations were on.
As per reports, journalist Suraj Pandey got a call around 9 am on Thursday after which he left his home to meet the caller. When he did not return till late in the evening, his kin called him up on his cell phone which was found to be switched off. Later, his mutilated body was found on the rail tracks in Sadar Kotwali area on Thursday night.
The victim’s mother, Lakshmi, said that Suraj was friendly with sub-inspector Sunita Chaurasia and the latter used to visit their house.
She further claimed that on Wednesday, constable Amar Singh called Suraj on his phone and spoke to him indecently after mentioning Sunita Chaurasia and also threatened him with dire consequences. The complainant further alleged that Suraj got a call on his phone at 9 am on Thursday and left home to meet the caller but later disappeared.
She suspected that Sunita Chaurasia, Amar Singh and another person might have killed Suraj and later dumped his body on the tracks to make it look like a mishap.
Circle Officer (City) Gaurav Tripathi said that the charges were being looked into and the autopsy report was awaited to check on ante mortem injuries and cause of death.
Meanwhile in Bulandshahr, a probe into the murder of general merchant shop owner Ramveer on Thursday morning revealed that the victim was gunned down for objecting to sexual advances at his sister by the assailant.
The accused was reported to be a repeat offender.
Early Thursday morning, Ramveer’s neighbour Kapil came to his house and asked him to the open shop as he wanted to buy sugar. As Ramveer started packing the sugar, Kapil’s brother Akash shot him on the neck and fled the scene.
The victim was taken to a private hospital only to be pronounced dead.
Ramveer’s father Sohanlal said that accused Akash used to harass his daughter and pressure her to marry him. Ramveer had earlier warned Akash not to harass his sister. Last Sunday, Ramveer’s sister ended her life by consuming poison due to continuous harassment by Akash. Her father said that they did not file a police complaint as they were scared of Akash.
The cops are now trying to arrest Akash and his aide Kapil.
