In a sensational “honour killing” in Shahjahanpur district, a 40-year-old woman and her lover were allegedly lynched by her husband and sons in Dehar village of Jalalabad area, police said on Friday.
The deceased were identified as Mamta and her boyfriend Raman Pal.
It is said that the woman's husband and his sons were concerned about the woman's relationship with another man.
According to Senior Superintendent of Shahjahanpur, S Anand, Mamta, the wife of Om Pal of Dehar village, had eloped with Raman Pal of the same village, leaving her husband and two sons about 10 years ago. After this, both lived in another city for about eight years. During the novel coronavirus pandemic in 2020, both returned to the village and started living there. The SP said that Om Pal and his sons did not like it and their relations with him were strained.
According to SP S Anand, Mamta's husband and son attacked Raman Pal when he was working in his field late on Thursday night. When Mamta tried to save Raman Pal, they also beat her and strangled her to death. Both Raman Pal and Mamta died on the spot.
The district police chief said a case was registered in this regard and a hunt was launched to arrest the accused.
Meanwhile, two brothers killed their father after an argument over money and property in Siddharthnagar district. The two then buried the victim's body beside a drain and lied about his whereabouts to their mother. They said that they had dropped him off at another village and he would come back on his own.
The incident was reported from Madhubanwa village where on June 4, the victim, Parshuram, had a quarrel with his two sons, Rajaram and Sonu, about them asking money from him for liquor and property.
The next day, the victim threatened the two with complaining to the police if they did not let go of the matter and left for work. The agitated brothers followed him. They killed him and then buried his body beside a drain. When their mother enquired about her husband's whereabouts later that day, the two lied.
When the victim did not return home, his wife lodged a missing persons report with the police. During the investigation, the police grew suspicious of the two sons and eventually questioned them.
Superintendent of Police Yashveer Singh said, "During interrogation, the two admitted to the crime and revealed the location of the body. We have recovered the body and sent it for a post-mortem."
He added that a case had been registered against the two accused under Section 302 (punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and further investigation was underway.
