Negligence of the police to take any initiative to work out sensational double murder of a couple in Mathura forced the victim’s daughter to go ahead and commit suicide. Surprisingly, the girl was staging dharna and had threatened before district police chief of Mathura that she will end her life if the cops took no initiative to arrest the killers but only after she committed suicide and local residents held a massive road blockade, SSP Mathura reacted by putting the local station house officer under suspension and ordering the crime branch of the district to work out the case and arrest the culprits.
Reports said that Banwari lal, a resident of Amar Vihar Colony under the Highway police station area, was found murdered along with his wife Ravibala, on March 8 last. The accused also looted ornaments and other costly belongings from the house. Banwari lal’s elder daughter Rakhee (20), who lodged a case in this regard was so upset that when she found that the cops were doing nothing even after her best efforts, had sat on dharna in front of SSP’s office. She threatened that if the cops would do nothing and not arrest the culprits than she will also commit suicide. It may be mentioned that Banwari lal had three children, two daughters and one son.
Sources said that the top officers did nothing and just gave assurance. Finding that the entire police force is making no efforts to work out the case, the girl finally consumed some poisonous substance on Monday morning. She was rushed to district hospital where she succumbed.
Meanwhile agitated with the death of Rakhee, hundred of local residents gathered and staged a massive demonstration demanding action against the policemen. They also raised slogan against power minister Shreekant Sharma and demanded compensation. later district magistrate reached the spot and reportedly announced a compensation package of Rs 5 lakh and that after victim’s son Rahul will turn adult, he will be given training under skill development and a job. later SSP Mathura, who also reached the spot after the massive protest finally reacted to cop’s negligence and claimed to have suspended the SHO of Highway police station, Girish Chandra Tewari. He also handed over the probe to the Crime Branch.
