Congress Working Committee member and former Union minister, Beni Prasad Verma said that the Bihar formula of unity among the secular parties against the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) is not possible in Uttar Pradesh.
‘’ The main two parties—Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party- are led by the leaders who are too ambitious, hence such unity among the secular parties in UP is totally impossible,’’ he said while ruling out any Bihar like adjustment between different political parties to stop BJP from spreading it’s base. Verma said lalu Prasad Yadav cannot contest elections hence he will not oppose to any ambition of Nitish Kumar but in UP it is different when both the SP and BSP leaders have full of political ambitions.
Talking to media persons here on Thursday afternoon, the CWC member who denied of having any role in the coming by-elections except for campaigning for some Party candidates, also made it clear that the Congress cadre in UP has locked themselves in the houses and till they come out, no one can strengthen the Party. ‘’Congress is a historical party with still lot of talents. It can immediately pose threat for
other parties, if they come out of their houses and stage agitation on peoples’ issue,’’ he said adding that no activity in the Congress in UP would surely damage the longest serving political party in the country.
When asked that who is responsible for inactiveness of the Party in UP, former union minister said that it is better that this question should be put up before sitting president of Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC), Nirmal Khatri. However, he claimed that he would be meeting with Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi next week to explain them about the prevailing condition and also offer his services in any capacity to strengthen the Party.
The former Union minister reiterated that there is no question of leaving Congress and joining other party particularly Samajwadi
Party.’’ Nor I nor my son Rakesh will leave Congress at this moment when they are needed more in the Congress. I will not leave the Congress which has given me honour and respect that too in their bad period,’’ he stated while showing his full confidence in the
leadership of Sonia and Rahul and that they will revive the Organisation just how Indiraji done it in 1977, Rajeev Gandhi in 1989 or even Sonia herself who led Congress to head United Progressive
