Former Union minister Beni Prasad Verma accused Rural Development minister Arvind Singh Gope of misusing his power and engaging in caste-based politics in Ramnagar Assembly segment of Barabanki. He filed a complaint with the Election Commission against Gope for breaching the Model Code of Conduct.
Verma said that Gope had done irregularities amounting to violation of he Model Code of Conduct and added that just before the elections, Gope got a district police chief of his own choice.
“A day before the MCC came into force, Gope manipulated the district police and got Station Officers of his choice posted at various police stations in his constituency. Not only this, the supporters of Gope are violating the MCC with impunity,” Verma alleged.
Interestingly, Beni Prasad Verma belongs to Mulayam Singh Yadav’s camp while Arvind Singh Gope is a confidante of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav. Gope is the sitting MlA from Ramnagar from where Mulayam Singh camp has fielded Beni Prasad Verma’s son Rakesh Verma. Rakesh was Jail minister during the last Mulayam Singh Yadav regime.
