Buoyed by the success of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's ambitious Varasat drive, the government has extended it further till February 28 next.
The drive, the first of its kind in the state, was launched on December 15 last year for two months and it had come to an end on February 15. However, the state government extended it in view of the overwhelming response from the rural population.
"About 7.43 lakh matters related to the registration of names of the successors have been settled while the remaining ones are in different stages of solution," an official spokesman said.
Out of these only over 30,000 matters are pending at lekhpal level in the state while about 19,000 are lying with revenue inspectors for disposal and will be disposed of in due course, he added.
This has been a novel idea of UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to resolve long-pending land disputes in the rural areas, with a promise of 'Apki Jameen, Apka Adhikar, Sabko Mile Apna Uttaradhikar'.
The Varasat campaign has been conducted in five stages with a battery of 24,000 lekhpals and 2,700 revenue inspectors of the Revenue Department being deployed to visit villages and gather information and dispose of the complaints, according to the official spokesman.
In this unique drive to resolve land disputes and prevent fraudulent transactions of lands, the chief minister had planned the campaign which met with great success with resolution of most of the cases received till February 16, 2021.
Among others, the districts of Azamgarh, Prayagraj, Hardoi, Jaunpur, Ghazipur, Ambedkarnagar, Ayodhya, Sultanpur, Gonda, Ballia, Gorakhpur, Kaushambi, Pratapgarh Unnao, Lakhimpur Kheri and Sitapur have seen most of the cases settled peacefully, to the credit of revenue officials.
