Expressing grief over the death of a farmer and Congress leader who was sitting on dharna for last two months demanding adequate compensation UPCC president Raj Babbar  said that government should give adequate compensation as well as martyr’s status to the farmer.

He said in a statement issued here on Monday that a farmer Mangu Khan, who was sitting on dharna for over two months in loni area of Ghaziabad, died waging a war against land sharks.

He also wrote a letter to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath demanding a martyr status and adequate compensation to the deceased family. He also demanded a high level probe into the incident so that real culprits could be booked, he said.

Babbar said that Mangu along with other farmers were sitting on dharna from December 6 at Mandola village over their demand to increase compensation of their land that was acquired by the Awas Vikas Parishad.

“The death of Mangu shows the apathetic attitude of the UP government. Many more farmers, who are protesting are ill and the government should consider their demands so that there is no more deaths,” Babbar said in his statement.

Babbar had gone to meet these villagers last month and had supported their demands.
