Usman helps state govt to get back land

Negligence of State Brassware Corporation (SBC) officials stood exposed after an initiative of State Information Commissioner (SIC) Hafiz Usman which also helped the state government to get back prime land in Moradabad worth crores of rupees.

A Moradabad resident after failing to get a reply of his application filed under Right to Information (RTI) Act with the Managing Director of SBC in Moradabad, filed an appeal before the SIC.

The complainant asked details of the Corporation property in ‘Peetal Basti’ scheme at Peetalpuri Colony which was grabbed by ex-employees and other persons.

Acting on this, the SIC directed Commissioner of Moradabad division to probe the matter after which SDM, Sadar (Moradabad)  Mukesh Chandra carrie dout the enquiry. The report submitted with the SIC said that at least 41 of former staffers were illegally residing in the colony besides other illegal occupants. It also said that the SBC workshop set up to promote export of brassware was lying unutilized or had been grabbed.

SIC, Hafiz Usman said that after finding the huge government land worth a bomb at a prime locality had been grabbed due to negligence of SBC officials, the Moradabad Commissioner was directed to evict the illegal occupants and ensure the possession of the land to the state government. The official was also asked to identify SBC staffers whose apathy facilitated the grabbing of the prime land.

The Commissioner informed the SIC last week that illegal occupants have been evicted and the property has been restored to state government’s possession. The name of the SBC officials resposnible for the land grab are awaited after which necessary action would be recommended.
