Consequent to assurance by UP power Corporation limited (UPPCl) that no decision to privatise power distribution in four cities of UP has been taken till now, the power employees called off indefinite work boycott on Wednesday.

The agitation, scheduled being launched from Wednesday, was called off after talks with Energy secretary Sanjay Agrwal held previous night. The Energy secretary, informed employee leaders in writing there was no such proposal for privatising power distribution in four mega cities but the government was appointing a consultant to take opinion over privatisation in power sector, said Vidyut Karmchari Samyukta Sangharsh Samiti (VKSSS) convenor, Shailendra Dubey.

Speaking at a press conference, VKSSS leader said. at any cost power employees would not accept the privatisation instead they were in favour of reforms in power sector. It would be better if state government pulls curtain on privatisation episode forever and prepares a work plan for reforms with taking employees in faith.

The previous experiments with privatisation at Agra, Anpara-C, Roja and Greater Noida has been flopped and were proving to be loss incurring, the employee leaders said.
