UP Power Corporation Limited penalised a senior officer of one of its subsidiaries and demoted Director (Technical) Anshul Agarwal to the post of chief engineer on Friday.
The officer was penalised for “inefficiency and other irregularities” leading to fall in revenue collection.
Agarwal was appointed Director (Technical) at Poorvanchal Power Distribution Corporation and posted at Varanasi, the Lok Sabha constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 26 last.
While Agarwal was demoted, the UPPCL also issued a show-cause notice to the then MD of Poorvanchal Power Distribution Corporation, Govind S Raju, over the same charges.
As per a UPPCL statement issued in Lucknow on Friday, Agarwal was found guilty of breakdown in the 33/11 kVA sub-station at Machodari in Varanasi on July 7 that led to power supply disruption for 18 hours in the area.
“In the probe, it surfaced that the Director did not take any action for restoring power supply through alternative mechanisms,” the statement said.
Besides, the probe also found that Agarwal failed to handle technical cases due to which around 2,500 faulty transformers were not replaced as per schedule and it led to a loss of revenue.
Before taking action, the Director was a show-cause notice was served on him and an explanation was sought about the lapses.
The UPPCL statement did not specify whether the officer was penalised after the receipt of his reply.
