Cash strapped UP Power Corporation Limited, which is in a financial quandary, on Wednesday launched a new Easy Instalment Scheme for domestic consumers under which they can pay their dues in 24 easy instalments in rural areas and in 12 instalments in urban areas.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Energy Minister Shrikant Sharma said that the scheme would be launched on November 11 and continue till December 31.
The scheme will be only for LMV-1 or domestic consumer of urban areas (up to 4 kilowatt load) and all consumers of rural areas.
Sharma said that under the scheme, consumers would have to pay five per cent of the dues or a minimum Rs 1,500 as first instalment with their regular October bill.
“The consumer will have the benefit to pay the entire dues in maximum 24 instalments and during that, penalty on the dues till October 31 would be waived,” he said.
However, only those consumers would be eligible for the scheme who continue to pay power bills regularly on time.
The minister said that the payment of dues would only be accepted online and all queries of consumers would be answered through the toll-free number 1912 and power department offices concerned.
