UPPCl decides to minimise power cuts

It is a good news for power consumers as they would be getting uninterrupted electricity for major part of the day after Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation limited (UPPCl) has decided to cut down on power cuts across the state ahead of the 16th lok Sabha elections.

"The UPites, who are often found complaining of the long power cuts, specially in the districts, are enjoying negligible rostering these days," a senior official of the UPPCl said. "After a gap of many years state is witnessing almost surplus power supply," he said.

The corporation supplied 9987 megawatt power supply, while the demand stood at 9487 megawatt on Saturday. In the past few days, the industrial towns and big cities witnessed round the clock power supply, while the districts witnessed around 22 hours supply.

To meet this demand the UPPCl received 157 megawatt power from Uttar Pradesh Jal Vidyut Nigam, 2928 megawatt from UP Vidyut Utpadan Nigam, 600 megawatt from co-operative generation, 1116 megawatt from Roza power plant and the remaining over 5000 MW electricity the state acquired from other sources including the private and central government run- National Thermal Power Corporation.

In the past 24 hours, Paricha power plant produced 658 megawatt power, Obra 325 megawatt, Panki 90 megawatt, Anpara 1433 megawatt and Harduaganj 422 megawatt.

It is also a wel-thought move by the state government to ensure round-the clock power supply in the rural and urban areas because Akhilesh Yadav Government is acing flak over development issues. The opposition parties have been rasiing the issues of bad roads and poor electricity supply in the region.

"The state government is committed to improve infrastructure. This cannot be done in a day. The SP government has inherited a bankrupt economy and rickety infrastructure from the previous government. Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav is trying to build infrastructure brick by brick. The beginning has been made and by next two years Uttar Pradesh will generate enough electricity to meet its requirement," Samajwadi Party states spokesman Rajendra Chaudhry said.
