UPCC to protest for NSA withdrawal

Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee will take out a march to the Raj Bhawan on Sunday in the state capital against imposing a National Security Act (NSA) against their MlA.

Congress' spokesperson Virendra Madan said here on Sunday that a group of representatives will meet the Governor Ram Naik and submit a memorandum demanding to withdraw the NSA charges on Congress MlA Ajay Rai.

“The Congress believes that the police in Varanasi has acted in a partisan manner and had taken action against the Congress MlA just to protect some people. We will request Governor to intervene,” he said.

Senior party leaders Madhusudan Mistri, Nirmal Khatri, Pradeep Mathur and Naseeb Pathan will take part in the march along with hundreds of congressmen, the spokesperson said.

Rai was arrested and booked under NSA after he allegedly led a crowd on October 5. He had accompanied Swami Avimukteshwaranand from Town Hall to Dashashwamedha during the Anyay Pratikar Yatra, called to protest against the lathicharge on seers, saints and others. However, before they could reach Godaulia Chowk, violence erupted with some protesters setting police vehicles and roadside kiosks on fire.
