UPCC executive to meet today

Published on:

After the party’s worst poll show since 1977 Lok Sabha elections when it drew a blank Uttar Pradesh, state Congress chief Raj Babbar has convened a meeting of UP Congress Committee executive in Lucknow on Thursday.

Sources said the meeting has been convened to merely complete the formality of passing a resolution urging Rahul Gandhi to withdraw his resignation from the post of Congress national president.

As per reports, amidst rumours that he has offered to resign as UP Congress chief, Babbar has so far only tweeted once accepting responsibility for the defeat of the party in UP in the recent Lok Sabha polls.

Party sources claimed that instead of brainstorming the reasons for the party’s worst-ever poll performance in UP, the UP Congress executive meeting is set to conclude after passing a resolution, requesting Rahul Gandhi to continue as Congress chief.

It was also not confirmed whether Babbar would turn up at the UPCC office for the meeting or delegate someone else to complete the formality. After the recent poll drubbing, Babbar has not turned up at UPCC headquarters yet and has missed even the programmes organised to remember former Prime Ministers Rajiv Gandhi and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.
