The UP Congress has accused the Samajwadi Party of cheating minorities and asked the Akhilesh Yadav government to issue a White Paper on the expenditure made from the special package released by the Centre for the minorities.
"The SP government should issue a White Paper on how and where several hundred crore rupees released by the Centre under the Prime Minister's 15-point welfare programme for minorities have been spent," UP Congress spokesman Virendra Madan said in lucknow on Monday.
Madan said that the minorities, particularly Muslims, were now feeling cheated by the SP and a glaring example of this was the Muslim clerics' boycott of a government programme to honour members of the community in lucknow on Sunday.
"Even Maulana Bukhari, who lauded the SP for its support to Muslims in the run up to the last Assembly election, has now realised the truth behind Mulayam Singh Yadav's love for the members of the community," Madan said.
The UPCC spokesman pointed out that Bukhari had held a meeting in Mulayam Singh Yadav's citadel on Sunday evening and openly flayed the SP chief for cheating Muslims.
Charging the SP government of siphoning of Central funds for other purposes, Madan alleged that large-scale irregularities were reported in the schemes launched for welfare of minorities. He said the state government should also tell the people how many students were provided scholarships for vocational and technical education.
Madan also asked the SP government to disclose how much money was spent so far on the development of areas dominated by minorities and how many students of the community from Class 10 till PhD were given scholarships sanctioned by the UP government.
The UPCC spokesman alleged that despite getting funds for the minorities from the Centre, the state government 'just forgot' to forwarded it to the beneficiaries.
"The Muslims have seen through the SP design to garner their votes and its tacit understanding with Bharatiya Janata Party by not fielding candidates in Gujarat. "The understanding between the SP and the BJP is also corroborated by the over 30 communal clashes in on year of SP government in UP," Madan pointed out.
