Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee accused Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath of shielding his government and escape responsibility of the deaths of children due to lack of oxygen at BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur recently. The party also demanded that Yogi refer a probe into the matter to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
``The manner in which the First Information Report (FIR) was lodged in connection with the Gorakhpur tragedy was not shown to the media and kept a closely guarded secret. later the move of Yogi government pass on accountability to college staff and gas suppliers made it clear that the CM was desperately struggling to save his government,” alleged state Congress spokesman Sanjay Bajpai.
Bajpai questioned that if the deaths were not due to lack of oxygen then why did the government register a case under Section 304 of IPC for culpable homicide IJ
``If Yogi was not hiding the truth, then he must ask the CBI to probe the matter so that the truth prevails,” said the Congress spokesman once again demanding the CM’s resignation on moral grounds.
Meanwhile, the lok Gathbandhan Party (lGP) also demanded a CBI probe into the tragic deaths. Party spokesperson and state co-ordinator SN Singh said on Monday that in view of the enormity of the tragedy involving top officials from Gorakhpur to lucknow and the quality of technical knowledge required for probe, the local police would find itself hamstrung.
“The situation warranted a technically sound investigation team so that the conspiracy could be unraveled by foolproof documentary and circumstantial evidence by withstanding all kinds of pressures so that the guilty were punished. Since the issue has wider repercussions, a CBI probe was the only way to reach logical conclusions,” Singh said.
