Reiterating his demand to have more centres of NIFT in UP, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has written to Union Textile minister Santosh Gangwar maintaining that the state should have three more centres for better reach.

“Uttar Pradesh is a big state. It has only one NIFT centre at Rae Bareli which is not enough. We should have three more centres in Noida, lucknow and Bareli to cater to the need of the students,” the CM wrote in his letter which was released to the media on Friday.

He said that UP has announced its Textile Policy under which the state has opened its doors for private investments. “UP has readymade and apparel market in Kanpur, Noida, lucknow and Bareilly and to promote this trade, the state needs accomplished teachers,” Yadav wrote in his letter.

The Chief Minister had earlier written to Gangwar on February 5 making the same demands. On his part, the Union minister replied on April 24saying that since there is provision to have only one NIFT centre in each state, it was not possible to open additional centres in UP.

“The present NIFT centre is at Rae Bareli. Since it is in the central-eastern part of UP, it cannot cater to the need of the whole state. We need NIFT centre in western UP, in central UP and in Rohilkhand. So the Centre must reconsider and open three more centres in Noida, lucknow and Bareilly,” Yadav wrote. He has promised to provide land for setting up of these centres free of cost.
