Taking suo-moto cognizance on attack on St Mary’s Church in Agra district, UP State Minority Commission has sought report from District Magistrate and SSP Agra. “We have sought detailed report over the attack on church from Agra’s DM and SSP. Although no written complaint had been received from anyone as of now,” said Spokesperson and Member UP State Minority Commission here on Saturday. Notably, on Thursday miscreants vandalised four statues of Mother Mary at St Mary’s Church compound in Agra besides breaking windowpanes of the car parked in the church courtyard.
After alleged Ghar-wapsi program, Agra is again in the highlights. The minority commission is taking the issue seriously and doesn’t want to overlook any kind of development in the case. “We have got no complaint from the locals or any Christian organisation about the attack but the report had been sought. We don’t want to take any chances on the issues of minority communities. We are monitoring all the developments taking place in the case and if required a panel of commission will visit the district too,” said Shafi.
To register their protest against the attack on Church, all Christian Missionary schools of lucknow had decided to remain close on April 23. On the occasion, a protest march will be taken in the city. This decision was taken in the meeting of bishops, senior pastors and key members of the community. “Such incidents of attack on churches create sense of insecurity amongst the community members. It’s a serious issue which will not be ignored. Now there is need to stress on security of community’s properties,” said Secretary Uttar Pradesh Masihi Association RK Chattri.
