UP sets another vaccination benchmark

Published on:

Uttar Pradesh set another benchmark in vaccination by leaving behind developed countries, including the United States, in the amount of average daily doses being administered to people.

On Friday, the Union Health ministry tweeted an infographic demonstrating how Indian states were leaving behind developed western countries in inoculating their citizens. Uttar Pradesh tops the chart by administering more than 11.73 lakh average daily Covid vaccine jabs, leaving behind the United States which could only administer around 8.07 lakh average doses on a daily basis.

The state has been setting new records in vaccination every day. Uttar Pradesh administered more than 33.42 lakh Covid vaccine doses on September 6, the highest ever vaccination achieved in a single day by any state since the start of the vaccination drive. The state has administered over 14.88 lakh vaccine doses in the last 24 hours. So far, UP has administered a total number of 8.62 crore cumulative doses of Covid vaccine.  More than 48 per cent of the total eligible population has received the first dose of anti-COVID-19 vaccine in the state.

Recognising that the need of the hour is to vaccinate people on a war footing and build herd immunity to combat the third wave of COVID-19, the UP government is in an active mode to further boost the vaccination programme. With vaccine awareness increasing in the state, Covid jab numbers in rural areas have seen a big jump. Over 80 per cent of the daily vaccination target is being met in the state’s rural areas.

As the inoculation rates picked up, the infection rate has significantly come down after the magnanimous second wave of COVID-19 hit the country. Of the 2.17 lakh samples tested in the last 24 hours, only 14 tested positive. In the same period, another 19 COVID-19 patients recovered from the infection. The active caseload in the most populous state has reduced to 184 from a high of 3.10 lakh in April. No active case has been found in 34 districts while no fresh case was reported from 65 districts.
