Fighting hard to maintain law and order in the State, Uttar Pradesh police finally had something to smile when they achieved a rare distinction by winning three of the awards in smart policing in the country. The awards were presented to the officers in New Delhi on Thursday evening.

According to an official communiqué, Assistant to DGP, Sanjay Singhal and PRO to DGP, Rahul Srivastava received the special jury award for providing best twitter services to directly address the people grievances. The twitter handle of the DGP of Uttar Pradesh, is directly handing all the on-line complaints and most of the grievances have been addressed within 24-hours of uploading, forwarding much needed relief to public.

Talking to `The Pioneer’ Rahul Srivastava claimed that they were working on a model and very soon they will come out with a dedicated unit in the DGP office which will handle all the complaints uploaded on DGP’s twitter account. He said that those complaints will be solved with the help of respective district police chiefs. Rahul said that at present they were handing all the complaints but once the dedicated unit will come up, it would turn out to be a milestone in the history of UP police to give justice to everyone without even visiting any police station.

Besides the special jury award for twitter handle, UP police also won the award for providing a separate portal for addressing problems of the women through Mahila Samman Prakost led by DGP Sutapa Sanyal and to UP-100 led by ADG Anil Agarwal. The awards were sponsored by FICCI and Vivekanand International Foundation and selection was made by a jury comprising of former union home secretary, former DG of CISF and other senior government officials.
