UP Congress chief Raj Babbar on Saturday claimed that UP Police was working more as a `bouncer’ of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath than working to maintain law and order or helping aggrieved persons.
“The UP Police was brazenly engaging in brutal assault or even firing on farmers, teachers, youths or who so ever was trying to questioning the misrule of Yogi government or trying to demonstrate to highlight grievances,” alleged Babbar.
“The police were busy bumping off petty criminals at the behest of the government while on the other hand, hardened criminals were being patronised by the BJP government and striking freely from road to jails,” charged the stateCongress chief.
Addressing party workers during an hour-long dharna to protest rising crime, grievances of farmers, youths, teachers, at GPO Park on Saturday, Babbar said that the economy was in a shambles due to the implementation of half- baked GST and the youths were not getting any jobs.
Babbar said that all promises made by the BJP during poll campaigns remain unfulfilled and now Saffron leaders were again making more such promises to misguide voters aheadof the 2019 lok Sabha poll. He said that the media, supposed to be the fourth estate, was not free to report truth and democracy was in danger under Modi’s rule.
Babbar reached the venue an hour late and sat for just 30 minutes the dharna concluded. Other prominent leaders participating in the stir were MlC Deepak Singh, former UP minister Naseemudeen Siddiqui, Siddharth Priya Srivastava, Amarnath Agarwal, Vinod Mishra, Virendra Madan, Onkar Singh etc. Similar dharnas were organised in all district head-quarters of the state.
