Uttar Police are now equipped with upgraded technology to solve cases faster with the help of an application with a data base of five lakh criminals as well as a face recognition and artificial intelligence application and a host of other technical features.
An official communiqué released on Thursday said that ‘Trinetra’ or ‘third eye’ was launched by DGP OP Singh at a conference of senior officers during the Annual Police Week celebrations on Thursday afternoon.
The database was created after bringing together criminal records of the police, Prison department and Government Railway Police. The architect of the application, ADG (Technical Services) Ashutosh Pandey (Senior) said that the database would help police on the ground by deploying techniques like face recognition, text search, biometric analysis, phonetic search, artificial intelligence (AI) and gang analysis to zero in on criminals in a quick and targeted manner.
“This app has a database of about five lakh criminals of the state and it will provide access to files and dossiers to officers and personnel on the ground in a seamless and reliable fashion. This app is aimed to help them crack a case fast and ensure relief and justice to victims,” Pandey added.
Artificial intelligence tools could be used by a cop at crime scene to identify a criminal through their face and photographs, through past FIRs where he was named, explore his links with any gang, scan fingerprints and voice samples and search the name if it was misspelt.
The app, at present, has been made available to senior police officers on their phones and would soon be shared with officials at police station-level.
The DGP claimed that a dedicated team of officials would keep the app updated as and when crimes happen and it could be used by officials by using a password.
