UP legislature disrupted over Yogi's statement on Samajwadi party

Stung by the critical remarks by the chief minister Yogi Adityanath  about the Samajwadi party linking it with terrorism, corruption and nepotism  the principal opposition party disrupted the proceedings of the  both the houses of the legislator on Monday. Samajwadi party demanded an unconditional apology from the chief minister for his remarks.

The Samajwadi Party disrupted the proceedings of the state assembly on Monday.   The treasury benches and the opposition members traded bitter charges over the issue.  Chief Minister YogiAdityanath was not present in the house who is in Tripura campaigning for the state assembly election. The legislative Council too was disrupted by the SP members on the same issue, leading to adjournment of the Upper House for the day.

The Assembly witnessed pandemonium, when the SP members were on their toes after the Question Hour over the statement of the CM.   The leader of opposition Ram Govind Chowdhary demanded unconditional apology from the chief minister for his statement against the Samajwadi party.

The treasury benches objected when leader of the Opposition Ram Govind Choudhury said the Chief Minister was talking of nepotism, but he too was on the same boat as he has inherited his present status as the chief of the Gorakhnath peeth from his guru Avaidyanath and Digvijay Nath. He said both the predecessors of the CM were in politics.

The Assembly witnessed noisy scenes, when BJP members opposed the statement of Ram Govind Choudhury. The SP members to trouped in the Well of the House, raising anti-government slogans.   Speaker Hridya Narain Dikshit tried to pacify the SP members, but he failed and announced to adjourn the House for 15 minutes.

The house reassembled after an hour. The SP members refused to relent and continued the slogan shouting while staging dharna in the well of the house. The Speaker later adjourned the House for the day after completing the day’s agenda. The SP members continued to squat in the Well, during the time of adjournment.

After the Question Hour, Ram Govind Choudhury raised the issue through special mention under rule 110 of the House, stating that recently, media reports said that CM has said that SP has promoted terrorism, corruption and nepotism during a public meeting.

“It is very unfortunate that a CM has said such a thing. Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Ram Manohar lohia, Jai Prakash Narain and several others were Samajwadi (socialist) and now a person sitting on a constitutional post was making such critical remarks,” he said.

Replying to the charges   the Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna denied that the chief minister had made any statement about the socialists. He said the Samajwadi party is raising the issue on the basis of the reports published in a newspaper and as per the established tradition; the house never takes cognisance of the news reports.  He argued that there was no justification   to raise this issue in the house on the basis of newspaper report.

“Yogi Adityanath is a person symbolizing sacrifice and the statement against him by the opposition is unacceptable” Khanna said.  Irritated over the continued slogan shouting by the SP members, parliamentary affairs minister retorted ``  even if the CM made such statement it was true as the Samajwadi party symbolised the corruption, loot of the public money and criminalisation of politics  and rampant casteism’’.

“SP was biased in favour for a particular caste during its previous regime and now they are unable to digest the bitter truth about their leaders and the government and creating bedlam in the house. The SP is responsible for criminalisation of politics in the state’’, charged Suresh Khanna. He added ``the SP members were holding the house to ransom by disrupting the normal proceedings of the house’’.

“Already, two of the total four days of the debate on Governor’s address have passed without any debate” he said. The Assembly will meet on Tuesday. The house will debate on February 15 on the motion of thanks to the joint address by the state   Governor. Chief Minister would be present in the House on that day.  February 15 is the last day for the debate on the Governor’s Address as on February 16, the Yogi government will table its second budgetary proposals for 2018-19.
