In a significant move aimed at streamlining and enhancing the traditional healthcare systems in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced the formation of an integrated ‘Ayush Board.’
This transformative initiative will oversee and regulate institutions related to Ayurveda, Unani, Homeopathy, Naturopathy and Yoga, while also facilitating the registration of practitioners within these disciplines.
The announcement came during a review meeting of the AYUSH department where Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath outlined his vision for the integration of these holistic healthcare systems. Presently, Uttar Pradesh operates three separate boards for Ayurvedic, Unani and Homeopathy medicine, a situation that the chief minister aims to rectify.
Under the leadership of the chief minister, the directive to consolidate these systems into a unified Ayush Board is expected to simplify the establishment and growth of new healthcare institutions and streamline the registration process for qualified practitioners.
Chief Minister Adityanath emphasised the growing interest among the youth in pursuing careers in Yoga and Naturopathy, noting that proposals from the private sector for the establishment of Yoga and Naturopathy institutes have been forthcoming. In response, he called for proactive measures to regulate these institutions and register doctors under the AYUSH Board’s purview.
The proposed Ayush Board will be headed by a director general, with separate director-level officers overseeing the domains of Ayurveda, Unani, Homeopathy, Yoga and Naturopathy. The chief minister stressed the need for practical standards to govern these institutions and highlighted Uttar Pradesh’s rapid emergence as a hub for health tourism. He underlined the importance of promoting Indian medical systems such as Yoga and Naturopathy to further bolster the state’s position in this sector.
Additionally, the chief minister encouraged efforts to promote research studies and patents within the new institutes that will be established across the state.
“This holistic approach to healthcare and the establishment of the integrated Ayush Board is poised to elevate Uttar Pradesh as a leader in traditional and holistic medicine, driving health tourism and fostering innovative research in the field,” SK Pandey, an Ayurvedic practitioner said.
