Your liquor cabinet is all set to get a Glenfiddich Whisky bottle and William Grant Scotch Whisky bottle (the new brand of foreign liquor in Uttar Pradesh) besides the famous Johnny Walker, Blenders Pride, Signature and other branded liquor bottles. In Yogi Adityanath government, renowned foreign companies are to start manufacturing units in Gaziabad within two months. These units will not only supply to UP but it will supply liquor to other states of the country also and this way the revenue of the excise department is all set to leap high in the time to come.
Excise Commissioner, Dheeraj Sahu said a Scottish company (William Grant) will be functional within two months in Gaziabad. “The company will manufacture Whisky to meet the demand of the Foreign Made liquor (FMl).
He said the government had not only eased the process of supply of FMl to the liquor shop owners in lucknow and urban areas of the different districts but it also was ensuring that people may get the good quality.
“As the new excise policy is transparent and hassle free, several famous foreign companies have showed their interest in opening manufacturing units in UP. The above named companies had signed a MoU with the state government recently,” he said.
Sahu said there were plans to re run the manufacturing units which were lying dysfunctional as yet. “The Starlight Bruchem limited Company of Gonda and some distilleries in Bareilly and Bahedi will be made functional very soon,” he informed.
He said the decision came in wake of the leap in revenue in the last fiscal. “The revenue on Excise was increased by about 60 per cent. The policy of allotment of shops is very transparent and we are banking on e methods like allotment of shops and payment made in the transaction. The syndicate of the liquor mafia had been broken completely and free and fair trade was being practiced in the Excise department,’ he said.
Sources in excise department said the assurance of quality liquor had impressed the customers and this caused the Excise department to earn huge revenue out of the sale. “The market for branded FMl is expanding very fast in the UP and the demand for the same is very high in cities like lucknow, Agra, Kanpur, Varanasi, Allahabad, Gaziabad and some districts of West and Eastern UP. By allowing the foreign companies to open manufacturing units in UP, the department is aimed at aimed to achieve the biggest target in revenue earning,” they said. They said the liquor business was not an easy task earlier as it involved liquor mafia.
“The foreign companies investing in opening of liquor manufacturing units now find that the atmosphere is very congenial for them and that was why they are interested in the business. It is a serious business in UP now,’ an official of Excise department said.
