To promote Uttar Pradesh as an ideal investment destination, the state government plans to promote Noida, Greater Noida and Yamuna Expressway as electronics manufacturing zone. Country-specific industrial parks will be set up, which will virtually act as a home away from home for the foreign companies.

“UP government is planning to promote Noida, Greater Noida and Yamuna Expressway as electronic manufacturing zone. The draft proposal is under preparation and will soon be placed before the cabinet for approval” said the industry minister Satish Mahana.

He said the Noida and Greater Noida falling in National capital region (NCR) enjoys advantage as a manufacturing hub owing to its large pool of skilled labour and proximity to the national capital.  The share of NOIDA and greater NOIDA in total electronic and software export is over 6 percent. The total software export from India is to the tune of USD 160 billion.

The minister said that the state is already home to 45 per cent of the total mobile manufacturing capacity in India where 38 new mobile manufacturing units with over 20 million handsets per month capacity have been set up since September 2015. These units have generated 38,300 jobs.  UP alone houses 13 of 38 mobile manufacturing units established in the country and NOIDA and Greater NOIDA single-handedly boast to hosting 13 of them. These units contribute 50 per cent or 11.25 crore handsets that are sold in the country,” he said. The total production capacity installed in the country is 20.7 million out of which UP alone accounts for 10 million mobile production capacity followed by Haryana with 2.5 million capacity.

Besides, there are 58 companies based in Noida and Greater Noida which manufacture mobile phones and accessories and components such as chargers, earphones and headphones.

The region is also home to many major brands like Samsung, Vivo, Oppo and Intex. Exuding confidence that UP will lead from the front in this sector in days to come, he said, “looking at the favourable environment, mobile manufacturers are keen to set up their production here not only to cater to Indian markets but to export to neighbouring countries also.” Mobile and electronic manufacturing is believed to be the way forward and UP seems to be leading it from the front’’, the minister said.

Meanwhile the work is progressing on the follow up of the MOUs sighed during the two day `UP Investors summit’’ held here in February.
