UP govt patronising liquor mafia: PGV

Published on:

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the national general secretary of Congress and party in-charge of UP, once again targeted the Yogi Adityanath government over hooch tragedy in Agra. She accused the government of giving patronage to liquor mafia in lieu of revenue collected through sale of illicit liquor in Uttar Pradesh.

She claimed that the government had no value for the loss of human lives.

“Thirteen people died due to spurious liquor in Agra and the Bharatiya Janata Party government is kind towards the liquor mafia and the accused responsible for the tragedy. No action is being taken against the mafia. Various incidents took place in the state due to spurious liquor and over 200 persons fell victim just this year but the government is not ready to wake up,” she tweeted on Friday.

At the same time, Priyanka, in her second tweet, said that the BJP government had got a huge hoarding of false propaganda to give jobs. “When the youth ask for a job, the government humiliates and canes them.” she tweeted while accusing the Yogi government of just making false propaganda of giving jobs to youths by putting big hoardings that too at public expenses.

Meanwhile, the Agra police claimed to have arrested seven people, including two owners of liquor vends, in connection with the hooch tragedy that has so far claimed 14 lives. After the arrest of the accused, the police claimed that they would soon expose the entire syndicate involved in supply of illicit liquor in the district and adjoining areas.

Nine police officials and five excise officials have been suspended so far in connection with the Agra hooch tragedy.
