Close on the heels of attack by her son Rahul Gandhi on misuse of funds by the state government, Congress president Sonia Gandhi too targeted Samajawadi Party government. She alleged that the state government failed to implement the developmental schemes of the Centre effectively.

Sonia Gandhi claimed that though the Centre is providing enough funds, the works are not being carried out by the state government. She said the Centre's responsibility is to send funds, but the development works have to be carried out by the state government. "See the state of this village...it belongs to a particular community for which the state government should also take some responsibility,"

Sonia told newspersons in an informal chat during her surprise visit to Binohara village in Rahi block on the second and last day of her visit to her parliamentary constituency on Tuesday. It may be mentioned that her son Rahul, who is also member of parliament from Amethi, also accused Akhilesh Yadav’s government for doing step-motherly treatment to his

Parliament constituency while citing poor condition of roads. He also said that Centre is dispatching huge funds to the state government for development but SP failed to utilise the funds. Sonia Gandhi, who arrived in Rae Bareli on Monday evening, did not participated in any official programme, owing to imposition of model code of conduct ahead of MlC election at graduate seat.  After arrival, the Congress president met a delegation of 39 workers at Bhuemau guest house and heard their problems. She also met the Anganbadi workers agitating for their demands.

later, a delegation of Telephone Industries located in Rae Bareli met her and demanded extension of retirement age from 58 years to 60 years. Afterwards, Sonia Gandhi visited All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and took stock of development works at Binauhra and Maniharu villages under Sadar tehsil.

The Congress supremo also visited the office of the National Highway Authority to view progress of the 17-km Rae Bareli ring road that will be constructed at a cost of Rs 302 crores.
