Ahead of Eid festival, the UP government has directed the district magistrates and district police officials not to leave their headquarters “under any circumstances” and ensure that peace and communal harmony is maintained in their jurisdiction. “Festival of Eid is likely to be celebrated onJuly 6.
In light of Ramzan and forthcoming Eid festival, the officers are directed by Chief Secretary not to leave their headquarters under any circumstances,” an official spokesman said
He said the officers have been directed that they must ensure communal harmony and peace at all costs in their jurisdiction. “It is a general directive and all the officers have been asked to remain vigilant,” said the chief secretary.
He said maintaining law and order and crime control is the top priority of the state government. Asking the district magistrates and district police chiefs to maintain vigil, chief secretary said even the small incidents should not be ignored.
He said in any incident with the potential of turning into a big law and order issue which threatens to disturb the communal harmony, the district magistrate and the district police chief must reach the spot immediately and ensure that the issue is settled amicably. He said if the officers take prompt action than the problem can be nipped in the bud. The chief secretary also directed the district officers to round up the anti social elements and take action against the criminal elements.
He also asked the officers to ensure the water and power supply during the festival period by deploying the available manpower and resources. He specifically asked for maintaining traffic during the Eid prayers. He also directed the district officers to keep the local intelligence unit in districts on high vigil and keep a close on watch on those spreading rumours with the aim of creating trouble.
Meanwhile principal secretary (home) Dewasheesh Panda and Director General of Police, Javeed Ahmed also visited Moradabad and later Meerut on Monday, to review the law and order situation particularly of Western UP, in wake of Eid and coming month of Shrawan Shivratri. They issued necessary directions to the officers and asked them to take all preventive steps to ensure peace during coming festival season.
