In the run up to the proposed ‘Investment Meet’ slated for the end of February, the Uttar Pradesh government has asked District Magistrates to identify land banks in their jurisdiction and report to the government by January 8. The directive was issued by Industrial Development Commissioner Anup Chandra Pandey in lucknow on Wednesday.
The Investment Meet is proposed in lucknow on February 21 and 22.
Pandey said that the detail of land bank sent by DMs is not clear. District officials should identify land that could be used for industrial development and it should be sent to the government.
“The report identifying land proposed for industries should be sent to the government positively by January 8 so that information could be collated and appropriate action could be taken at the government level,” Pandey said in his directive which was released to the press.
The Industrial Development Commissioner said that DMs should set up a three-member committee to identify land bank which should be headed by an ADM. The other members should include Deputy Commissioner of District Industry Centre and Regional Manager of UPSIDC.
“This committee should physically verify land approved for industrial development and should ensure that there is no litigation. The committee should also specify the land area and its distance from district headquarters,” Pandey said.
The exercise has begun to identify land which could be used for industrial purposes. Officials said that recent roadshows in Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai and Hyderabad have been great successes. Industrialists have shown interest in investment in UP and asked for details of land.
“We should be ready with every information investors ask for. The first information could be land and we have asked for the details from districts,” a senior official said.
Officials vouched that companies have shown interest in investment in western UP. Some have even proposed setting up of solar power plant in Bundelkhand. However the government is keen that at least one company should invest in Gorakhpur – the native city of Chief Minister.
