Government has also decided to construct an international standard cricket stadium in Saifai – the native village of Chief Minister. The decisions were approved by State cabinet that met here on Tuesday.
The cabinet has allowed amendments in the Uttar Pradesh Zamindari Abolition and land Reforms Act 1950 under which dalit will no longer have to take permission from District magistrate before selling his land to non-dalits.
“There were some clauses in the Act which said that dalit cannot sell his land to non-dalit unless he takes permission from the DM. The law also said that DM cannot give permission if on the given day the area of the proposed land is less than 1.26 hectares or after selling a portion of the land the original land becomes less than 1.26 hectare. This clause was creating problem in selling land,” the spokesman said.
He said that cabinet has decided to amend Section 157 A of the UP Zamindari Abolition and land Reforms Act, 1950 by which this mandatory clause will be diluted and the dalit can now sell his property to non dalits, he said.
There are reports that in many cases, when dalits were hard pressed for money and they wanted to sell off their property they could not do so because they cannot sell it off to non-dalits. Then they were either forced to sell the land to a dalit at a throw away price or take loan from the private money lender.
“This decision of the government will allow the dalits to use land as a medium to earn money,” the spokesman said.
