UP Governor Ram naik has formally dissolved the outgoing 16th state assembly here on Friday. The Governor dissolved the 16th assembly as per the recommendations of the state cabinet which met here on Friday presided by the care taker chief minister Akhilesh Yadav. A Raj Bhawan spokesman said the new 17th assembly would come into existence and commence the work only after the 16th assembly is dissolved.
The governor exercising the powers under the Article 174 –part-II, issued the notification for the dissolution of the 16th state assembly on Friday. The 16th assembly was constituted on March 8, 2012. The election of the 17th assembly was held in seven phases and the notification for the constitution of the 17th state assembly was issued on March 14.
