Even as the situation in strife-torn Kasganj is returning to normal, Governor Ram Naik on Monday said that the communal riot in the town was a blot’ on the state and the state government must take measures so that the 'shameful’ incident was not repeated.
“The incident is a blot on UP and such things are not acceptable,” Naik said after paying floral tributes to Maharana Pratap on his death anniversary in lucknow.
“Kasganj mein jo hua woh kisi ke liye bhi shobha dayak nahi hai. Wahan jo ghatna hui woh UP ke liye kalank ke roop mein hui hai. Sarkaar uski jaanch kar rahi hai. Sarkaar aise kadam uthaye ke phir se aisa na ho (The incident of Kasganj is not good. It is a blot for the state. UP government is probing into the matter and it should take step that such thing do not repeat),” the Governor said.
Earlier, Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu on January 24 had said that improvement in law and order must be the top priority of the Yogi government. He also suggested to the Chief Minister to withdraw privately held licensed firearms in the state even at the cost of antagonizing the elite class of society. Naidu said that large number of private licensed firearms was one of the major causes for crime.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Sidharth Nath Singh alleged that the Kasganj incident was not a communal violence but a political conspiracy.
“Some political parties are conspiring to disturb peace in the state. In Kasganj, there was no communal clash,” he said. Without taking any names, the Minister said a few days ago the Samajwadi Party leaders were behind the potato and hooch. “We cannot rule out political conspiracy behind the Kasganj incident.”
