UP government launches subsidy portal for EVs

In its ongoing efforts to promote electric vehicles, the Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday launched the subsidy portal upevsubsidy.in on which customers who bought electric vehicles after October 14 will be eligible for claiming EV subsidy.

“Once the application is submitted, the subsidy amount will be transferred to the customer’s bank account after successful completion of a four-level verification process,” Additional Commissioner (Transport) Rajiv Srivastava said.

He said after submitting the application on the portal, a four-level verification process would take place, beginning with verification at the dealer level, followed by registration and departmental verification. The final verification would be carried out by a transport inspector. On the basis of the information provided on the portal, the banking partner would transfer the subsidy amount into the customer’s bank account within three working days.

“For two-wheeler electric vehicles, the subsidy will be Rs 5,000 per vehicle for the first two lakh purchases, not exceeding 15 per cent of the ex-factory cost. For four-wheeler electric vehicles, the subsidy will be Rs 1 lakh per vehicle for the first 25,000 purchases, not exceeding 15 per cent of the ex-factory cost,” he said.

He said that the first 400 non-government e-buses would receive a subsidy of Rs 20 lakh per vehicle, up to 15 per cent of the ex-factory cost. For the first 1000 e-goods carriers, a subsidy of one lakh rupees per vehicle would be available, allowing up to 10 per cent of the factory cost.

This initiative is part of the Uttar Pradesh Electric Vehicle Manufacturing and Mobility Policy-2022, which includes a purchase subsidy incentive scheme. The development and maintenance of the portal have been entrusted to UPDESCO (Uttar Pradesh Development Systems Corporation Ltd).

Under Uttar Pradesh Electric Vehicle Manufacturing and Mobility Policy-2022,  permission has been granted for the implementation of the Purchase Subsidy Promotion Scheme on certain conditions. This scheme is effective from October 14, 2022 and will continue to be so till October 13, 2023.

To apply for the subsidy on electric vehicles (EVs), the applicant must be a buyer, who purchased and registered an eligible EV in his/her name after October 14, 2022.

After entering the vehicle registration number in the application, the subsidy portal will automatically fill relevant details from the vehicle portal to the application form. The applicant must fill in any remaining fields, including their bank details (bank name, account number, IFSC code, etc.) to receive the purchase subsidy.

The applicants must upload their photograph and signatures on the portal, which should be the same as those uploaded during vehicle registration through the dealers. Applicants will also have to upload the cancelled cheque or passbook for bank account verification. It is mandatory that the bank account is in the name of the applicant. After applying for the subsidy, EV owners can check the status of their application by visiting the application status section.
