After Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the work being carried out by the Yogi Adityanath government, the Uttar Pradesh government breached yet another record in the distribution of free ration to more than 3.36 crore beneficiaries, arguably the largest number on a single day in the world.
Ensuring that no one slept hungry during the ongoing pandemic, the state government gave free food grains to over 3.36 crore people through 80,000 ration shops across the state on Thursday under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana. More than 1.68 lakh metric tons of grains were distributed on over 80,40,816 ration cards. The beneficiaries were also given a 25-kg ration bag to store the grains.
The prime minister interacted with beneficiaries present at select fair price shops in Varanasi, Kushinagar, Jhansi, Sultanpur and Saharanpur through video conferencing where the latter shared their experiences of the ration distribution system and how it changed their lives amid the pandemic.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath carried out the distribution from the fair price shop at Vasudev Ghat in Ayodhya.
