UP crosses another vaccination landmark

Emerging successful in the fight against COVID-19, Uttar Pradesh crossed the landmark of administering more than eight crore first dose of Covid vaccination on Thursday. The most populous state of the country has so far given the ‘Jab of Life’ to more than 9.77 crore people and in the last 24 hours over 7.56 lakh people have been inoculated.

Besides, the state also achieved the landmark of administering the first dose of the Covid vaccine to nearly 54 per cent of the eligible adult population while over 1.76 crore people in the state have been fully vaccinated.

“The Uttar Pradesh government is focused on getting the majority of the population inoculated. As the second wave of the coronavirus remains in control across the state, the demand to get vaccinated remains high as it is the only option to fight the invisible enemy,” a government spokesman said.

Making a rapid stride towards eliminating the viral infection, the state witnessed the sharpest decline in the number of active COVID-19 cases as the tally fell below the 190-mark on Thursday. Active caseload in the state now stands at 186, having been brought down by almost 99 per cent from its peak capped at 3.10 lakh cases on April 30.

In a clear indication that the spread of the dreaded coronavirus has been arrested in UP, out of 2.20 lakh samples tested, only 11 have tested positive in the state while in the corresponding period, 20 COVID-19 patients have recovered from the infection. While major states are witnessing a greater surge of new coronavirus cases (daily cases ranging from 22,000-2,000), Uttar Pradesh has restricted the daily-case count below 50 for 44 consecutive days now.

As many as 30 districts, namely Amroha, Auraiya, Ayodhya, Azamgarh, Baghpat, Ballia, Banda, Bahraich, Bhadohi, Bijnor, Farrukhabad, Gonda, Hamirpur, Hapur, Hathras, Kanpur Dehat, Kasganj, Mahoba, Mau, Mirzapur, Moradabad, Muzaffarnagar, Pilibhit, Rampur, Saharanpur, Sant Kabir Nagar, Shamli, Shravasti, Sitapur and Sultanpur have eradicated the coronavirus as their fresh and active COVID-19 cases remain zero.

None of the 75 districts of the state has reported fresh coronavirus cases in double digits lately and only six districts have reported new cases in the last 24 hours.
