A few days after crossing the 26-crore Covid vaccine dose milestone, Uttar Pradesh added yet another feather to its cap on Sunday by crossing the 16-crore mark in first vaccine dose coverage in the state.
Strengthening its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, UP has so far administered over 1.10 crore vaccine doses to minors between 15 to 18 years of age. The immunisation drive for children has picked up pace in the state. In addition, as Uttar Pradesh continues to conduct one of the most successful vaccination campaigns in the country, over 17.10 lakh ‘precautionary doses’ have been administered to healthcare and frontline workers and those above 60 years.
As per an official communique released on Sunday, Uttar Pradesh has administered 26.89 crore vaccine doses and it is followed by Maharashtra with 15 crore doses. In terms of percentage, over 73 per cent of the adult population is fully vaccinated, while more than 100 per cent have received the first jab of the vaccine.
In light of the emergence of the new Omicron variant of novel coronavirus, the UP government has expedited its vaccination coverage in the state. The state has so far administered over 16.00 crore first doses of the vaccine.
Uttar Pradesh has played an important role in the pan-India vaccination campaign with its wide coverage of the population under the vaccine umbrella. From the very beginning, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has emphasised on the vaccination campaign, underlining it as the “strongest weapon” in dealing with the pandemic.
