Amazing it may sound but a cop of Uttar Pradesh police presently posted at Sambhal had managed to remain on his duty and also simultaneously appeared in the court at the same time to get bail in a dowry harassment case.
Interestingly, even when the matter was brought to the notice of the senior officers, no action has been initiated against the cop.
Now, the Information Commissioner, Hafiz Usman, in whose court the above matter has been filed, had directed director general of police, Jagmohan Yadav, to conduct a probe into the matter and take stern action against the cops for slipping from duty without taking permission or even informing his bosses.
Usman claimed that it is strange to learn that many cops remained on duties in the official record even when they used to slip to their native villages and this sensational fact also came during probe into Muzaffarnagar riots. He claimed that to take corrective measures, state government had already changed the policy not to post any policemen in the adjacent district to his home town. However, still the cops in connivance with the officers slipped and perform their personal work so he had directed DGP to issue a circular to the senior officer to make surprise check of duties and take stern action if anyone was found missing. Usman said that this step is also very necessary to improve the law and order situation as well to improve the response time.
Reports said that a case of dowry harassment was registered against constable Vinod Kumar and his kin, a native of Badaun and presently posted at Pathakpur hamlet of Bijoi police station in Sambhal district. Reports said that Vinod appeared in the court at Chandausi in Moradabad district on April 2 and again on April 19 last year and got bail in the matter. learning of the above move, the complainant filed a RTI with Sambhal police and sought detail regarding duty of Vinod Kumar on the said dates. When the senior officers refused to give information, the complainant knocked the door of IC Hafiz Usman, who immediately intervened in the matter and summoned detail. Usman said that he was shocked when Additional SP of Sambhal, Vinod Kumar Mishra, informed him along with the General Diary (GD) of the police station that on both above dates, constable Vinod remained on duty through-out the day. Usman said that it is impossible that the cop or even anyone, to remain on duty also seek a bail after surrendering in the court at some other place at same time. He said that what is more surprising for him is that the local officers were well aware of the constable Vinod’s illegal move, but still no action has been taken. He now said to have directed for a probe and stern action not only against the constable but also against senior officers who preferred to keep their eyes closed
