Boosted with successful agitation in lucknow on November 21, Uttar Pradesh Congress will now hold ‘Ghera Dalo, Dera Dalo’ programme in Varanasi on December 26-27, to highlight the farmers plight on the issue of cane and paddy procurement and non-implement of Food Security Act. later they will hold similar agitations in four other zones of the State including Bundelkhand and Western UP.
According to spokesman of the UPCC, Virendra Madan, senior leaders including party state president Nirmal Khatri along with incharge of party affairs here in UP, Madhusudan Mistri had already visited Varanasi to ensure that all the workers should reach and join the agitation so that they could pressurise the Samajwadi Party government to implement Food Security Act as well as to forward other facilities to farmers.
Sources in the Congress maintained that this agitation will later spread to the entire state and similar Ghera Dalo, Dera Dalo agitation will be organised in all the five zones of the State. A senior leader associated with the above agitation claimed that the protest would not confined to zonal head-quarters only but they will take it district level to make the people aware of how Samajwadi Party leaders were depriving the poors of their right to food. ``Congress will not allow the government to take the poor people of the state for granted and will do whatever required to force the government to implement the Food Security Act”, he said.
