The UP Congress held a state-wide protest over the alleged unlawful and unconstitutional move of Karnataka Governor Vajhubhai Vala in administering oath to BS Yeddyurappa as Chief Minister. The party demanded immediate sacking of the BJP government there.

The main protest was held at the GPO Park in lucknow where Congress leaders and workers led by state chief Raj Babbar along with MP, Sanjay Singh, Congress legislative Party leader, Ajay Kumar lallu, Congress leader in Council Deepak Singh, former MP Pramod Tiwari, former minister Naseemudin Siddiqui and senior leaders staged a dharna on Friday morning. Party workers were agitated over the undemocratic approach of the Karnataka Governor.

later talking to media persons, Babbar welcomed the decision of Supreme Court giving just a day’s time to Yeddyurappa for seeking vote of confidence on the floor of the Assembly. “It would have been better if the SC had sacked the BJP government there, which was formed after breaking all democratic norms,” he said.

Babbar claimed that since the BJP government came to power in Delhi, all democratic values have been blown away and the ruling party was openly violating Constitutional norms to gain power.

The state Congress chief cited states like Goa, Manipur, Meghalaya  etc in which Congress was the single largest party yet the BJP formed the government there.

later, Babbar led a delegation opf Congress leaders to Raj Bhawan and handed over a memorandum to Governor Ram Naik.

Similar protests were also held at different district headquarters of the state too. On Thursday also, Congress leaders burnt the effigy of BJP chief Amit Shah and organised a huge demonstration in lucknow.
