UP Cong to stage protest over dalit violence

The UP Congress has decided to organise a state-wide 'silent demonstration' led by newly-appointed president Raj Babbar in lucknow on Thursday to protest against the Dalit atrocities in Gujarat.

"The UPCC chief will lead the protest and will sit on a dharna for two hours at Gandhi statue in Hazratganj after garlanding the statue of Dr BR Ambedkar," said spokesman of the UPCC media cell, Sanjay Bajpai on Wednesday afternoon.

He claimed that AICC secretaries Zuber Khan, Rana Goswami, Nasib Singh and Prakash Joshi along with other senior leaders including MlAs would also join the demonstration to protest the excesses made by the ruling BJP both in Gujrat and other BJP ruled states.

Bajpai claimed that on Tuesday night, state BJP vice-president  Daya Shankar Singh used derogatory language against former CM and BSP chief Mayawati, also a Dalit, ponting towards the respect that the Saffron brigade leaders had towards women. "Not only should Singh be expelled but a case must also be registered and he should be sent to jail," he said.

"Besides lucknow, similar silent dharnas will also be organised in all district headquarters by respective district and city Congress chiefs, office bearers, workers and supporters on Thursday," said Bajpai.
