Uttar Pradesh Congress would gherao the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) offices in Kanpur and lucknow on Wednesday in the wake of their agitation against the demonetisation move of the Narendra Modi led central government. The programme for the agitation was announced by Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi on January 11 last. Former Delhi Congress president and ex-MP JP Agarwal and senior UP Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member Pramod Tiwari in a joint press conference here on Tuesday claimed that the Party workers will stage demonstration in front of the RBI offices in lucknow and Kanpur on Wednesday. “We will seek explanation from the RBI that why they are interfering into the fundamental rights of the citizen of the country by putting restriction in the money to be withdrawn by the people,” said Agarwal.
He said after Wednesday’s programme, the Party will hold a big convention in lucknow between January 20 and 25 to aware the people about the negative aspect of the demonetisation besides later on, panchayats would be held in every village where people will demand from Prime Minister to reply their questions on demonetisation.
Tiwari in his address said that now IMF had also predicted that one per cent growth rate has declined due to demonetisation and alleged that the cashless scheme of the centre was the biggest scam by the Narendra Modi government. “Through cashless, Indian money would be transferred in the foreign country which would be the biggest scam in the country,” he further said. However, when asked about the alliance of Congress with the Samajwadi Party, against whom they had toured the state under the slogan of ‘27 saal, UP behal’, Tiwari said that he will answer this question when there is a formal announcement of the alliance. He too said that there would be an alliance between SP and Congress, but was not aware of the formalities including the number of seats Congress would be getting in the pact.
