UP Assembly to meet for departmental budget approval

Published on:

Probably for the first time in legislative history, the UP Assembly would be meeting on Sunday to approve the departmental budget on March 6.

The Assembly would congregate from March 4 to 6 to pass the departmental budget while appropriation bills and budgetary proposals for 2016-17 would be passed on March 8.

Assembly speaker Mata Prasad Pandey said that since there is shortage of time, it has been decided to convene sittingson Saturday and Sunday.

Pandey said that the House would not sit from February 29 to March 3 due to legislative Council elections. The session will end on March 8, thus effectively leaving three days to pass the budget.

The Assembly would not sit on March 7 due to Shivratri.

It has been clarified that there would not be any legislative function and only the budget would be taken up.

Meanwhile, the Speaker also informed that a delegation of women legislators from UP would be participating in the two-day conference to be held in New Delhi on the initiative of lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan from March 5.

The delegation would comprise women legislators like Asha Kishore of the SP,  Aradhana Mishra of the Congress and BJP’s Vimla Botham.

Pandey said that the conference titled ‘Mahila Pratinidih Sashakat Bharat ki Nirmata’ will discuss the role of women in the present context with focus on how women could play a better role in the making of a strong India. “Two women journalists would also accompany the delegation,” he said.
