Unnao rape victim’s kin oppose permanent platform at burial site

The family members of Unnao rape victim, who was torched and died in a Delhi hospital, staged a protest on Monday when the district administration tried to construct a permanent platform at the place where she was buried on Sunday.

“We will not allow anyone to make a permanent platform over the burial place until justice is meted out to the victim,” said the protesting family, forcing the administration officials to return without starting the work.

Meanwhile, the victim’s younger sister complained of acute chest pain late Sunday night after which she was shifted to Unnao district hospital. The administration deployed two women constables for her security. The local police are already providing round-the-clock security to the victim’s family members.

Sources said that some objectionable social media messages were exchanged between the victim and her lawyer, which went viral on Sunday.

The sources said that the autopsy report confirmed a cut mark on the victim’s wrist which puzzled the Special Investigation Team probing the case.

As the cut mark was fresh, it is suspected that the accused might have first used some sharp-edged weapon to attack the girl and later doused her with petrol and set her afire.

The sources further said that it emerged that the victim, who was torched in Unnao on Thursday, had been promised marriage by the same man who raped her earlier this year.
Prime accused Shivam Trivedi had signed a marriage agreement in January last year and then solemnised the marriage with the victim in December, 2018.

“We declare that we have solemnised our marriage in a temple on January 15, 2018, according to Hindu traditions with our free will. We are living with each other as wife and husband. We are signing this agreement to avoid any legal hindrance,” the agreement read.

The sources said that the family of the prime accused, however, had refused to accept the woman as she was from a lower caste. After this, the woman levelled rape charges against her husband.

Lawyer SN Maurya, who represented the victim in the rape case, said that Shivam was threatening the woman to withdraw the case and was forcing her for a compromise.

Meanwhile, in a separate case in Pratapgarh, a man was arrested for raping a 14-year-old deaf girl at Sangramgarh on Thursday.

The police said that a case was registered after the victim communicated to her family through sign languages, after which the accused was arrested on Sunday.

The accused was charged with various sections of Indian Penal Code and POCSO Act.

The victim’s medical examination confirmed rape.
